Level of Care

All our members are at least EMT-1 (EMT-Basic) certified and are affiliated with Santa Clara County EMS. We require all our members to have a current EMT-certificate as well as a CPR for the professional rescuer certification by either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association. StEMS as a whole provides non-transport BLS (basic life support) and if necessary can work together with ALS (advanced life support) to provide the best level of care to our patients. StEMS is dedicated to a high level of professionalism and requires continuing education from all its members.

EMT Training

StEMS runs a full-year long EMT training program at Stanford (Surg211), meeting one night a week and fulfilling the lecture and practical training to qualify for the National Registry exam and for certification as an EMT-B. A link to the course website can be found on the right. EMT training is also offered by programs at Foothill College and Santa Clara. For more information about the Stanford EMT training program see the link on the right.

CPR Training

In addition to the EMT training program, the group also runs the Stanford CPR/First aid program together with the Vaden Health Center, providing CPR and First Aid instruction to dorms, student groups, and the community. All instructors are Red Cross certified as CPR instructors, and classes are offered by request. If you are interested in setting up a CPR class for your dorm or group, or if you are interested in becoming a CPR instructor, please visit the Stanford CPR website found on the right.
