Surg211: General Information

The Stanford Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training class (SURG 111/211), is a full year course designed to give students the theoretical and practical training they need to take the National Registry certification exam and become certified as EMT-1s (basics).

The class meets on Wednesday nights for three hours from 6pm-9pm. Class time is split between lectures given by doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, and practical labs. In addition, 2 medical observation shifts will be required, to be completed either on an ambulance with Palo Alto Fire Department, or in the Stanford Emergency Department (ideally, one of each). Because this class fulfills the required 120 hours of EMT training and therefore students are eligible for certification upon course completion, students will be expected to enroll in the class for all three quarters in sequence.
