About Us
The Stanford Emergency Medical Service (StEMS) was founded by 8 Stanford Students in June of 2007. StEMS is a student group of certified EMT-Basics that provide standby medical service for to the students, faculty, and community at campus events. StEMS works with the Department of Public Safety and Vaden to provide high quality emergency care on campus.
What does StEMS do?
When StEMS standby service is requested for an event, the number of teams required is determined in advance. Teams consist of at least two EMT-1 (basic) each, and are stationed throughout the event to provide medical assessment and attention as needed. Since StEMS does not transport, if a case requires ALS (advanced life support) or urgent transport, StEMS members will contact medical dispatch for a transporting ambulance. Each team carries trauma equipment as well as oxygen and an AED, and is able to provide full BLS service to anyone in need.
